Like most of the Midwest, Chicago has all four seasons. Summer is usually hot and humid, winters are cold and snowy, and spring and autumn are mild with low humidity. Being located next to Lake Michigan does help the lakefront areas cooler in the summer and milder in the winter. With the tall buildings creating a tunnel from the wind off Lake Michigan in the downtown areas, Chicago is known as the Windy City.
One of the great features of this city is all the parks and green spaces. Two of the more popular parks are Millennium Park and Lincoln Park. Located near the Loop and Lake Michigan, Millennium Park is known as a distinguished civic center, hosting many outdoor concerts in the summer months. You can see the Joffrey Ballet perform at the Harris Theater as well. Lincoln Park is right next to the water. Here you can visit the Lincoln Park Zoo, a free 35-acre zoo, and the Lincoln Park Conservatory, which also houses a botanical garden. There are more than 570 parks within the Chicago Park District, as well as 31 beaches and 50 nature areas.
The Navy Pier is another great Chicago attraction. It houses the Chicago Shakespeare Theater, a newly constructed Ferris wheel, museums, auditoriums, restaurants, and retail stores. It stretches 3,000 ft into Lake Michigan. Nearby is the well known Field Museum of Natural History, one of the largest museums of its kind in the world. The Shedd Aquarium and Adler Planetarium are also nearby. The Shedd Aquarium is home to over 32,000 animals and was the first indoor aquarium with a permanent saltwater fish collection. America’s first planetarium was the Adler Planetarium, which houses extensive space science exhibitions, three full-size theaters, and a significant collection of antique scientific instruments and print materials. All three make up Chicago’s Museum Campus. Other notable places in Chicago include the Art Institute of Chicago, Willis (Sears) Tower, Magnificent Mile, and Museum of Science and Technology.
Chicago has been considered a world center of higher education and research since the 1850s. Out of the many colleges and universities, three stand out as the highest research doctoral universities: University of Chicago, University of Illinois at Chicago, and Northwestern University.
There are four airports in the Chicago area, the main location being the O’Hare International Airport on the northwest side of the city. O’Hare is the second-busiest airport in the world, in terms of airline operations. Midway International Airport is on the southwest side of Chicago, just eight miles from the Loop, was originally Chicago’s main airport. The other 2 are Chicago Rockford International Airport in Rockford, IL and Gary/Chicago International Airport in Gary, IN. The Port of Chicago is made up of several major port facilities. Calumet Harbor, the central element of the Port District, is maintained by the Army Corp of Engineers. The Illinois International Port District operates the Port of Chicago as well as the Foreign trade zone No 22.
Whether moving to the Windy City or relocating elsewhere, you’ll know your car transport is being cared by professionals with the necessary equipment in a secure facility. They help with our door-to-door and terminal-to-terminal car shipments, whether on the pick up or delivery end. If you’re in the Chicagoland area and need to ship a car, look no further.
